Dear APAC National Facility merit grant holder, The National Facility service will commence on 30 April. Attached are details of your grant and associated user-IDs and passwords. Information to help in getting started will be sent by email direct to every user attached to your project, but for security reasons the passwords are being sent only in this mailing to you. Please pass them on to the individuals concerned. If any of the details on the attached page are incorrect or you wish to add or delete users, please email us or amend the page and send it back to us. In the interests of providing a service as soon as possible, we are foregoing the extended 'test user' period that such major installations usually have prior to commencing general service. We hope that the 7 days available to us between the system passing acceptance tests and the commencement of the service should be sufficient for us to provide a reliable service. But we ask for your consideration and feedback if there are minor initial glitches. Note that the grants notified on the accompanying page do not include the period October to December 2001 since the allocation for that quarter will not be made until later in the year. Not only will the processors be upgraded in that quarter, but the total hours available will be significantly increased during that quarter, so users can expect a substantial boost in the number of hours allocated to their project in October - December. However the exact size of the increased grant will depend on the requirements of new projects approved in mid-year by the Merit Allocation Committee. Please also note that under USA export conditions, the National Facility system, which exceeds "2000 Composite Theoretical Performance", cannot be "accessed either physically or computationally by nationals of Cuba, Iran, Iraq, Libya, North Korea, Sudan or Syria''. Principal investigators and users nominated by them therefore cannot be a national of one of these countries. If this means you must withdraw any of your associated users from your project, please notify us. Bob Gingold
