Further details on APAC and the National Facility can be found at http://www.apac.edu.au and http://nf.apac.edu.au. The APAC Merit Allocation Scheme allows researchers to access the APAC National Facility based on merit. A substantial portion of the computational resources at the National Facility is available for distribution under this Scheme by a Merit Allocation Committee. Applications are now called for awards under this Scheme for the period of 2 July 2001 to 30 June 2002. The closing date for applications is 4 June 2001. Smaller 'Start-up Grants' are also available to enable researchers to assess the usefulness of the Facility for their research and to assist in framing proposals to the Scheme. Resources Available Details on the resources available, the criteria for evaluating proposals and conditions of use can be found at http://nf.apac.edu.au/policies. Who May Apply Any staff member of an Australian Higher Education Institution may apply to the Merit Allocation Scheme (with certain restrictions imposed by USA export conditions). Postgraduate students should apply through their supervisors. Successful applicants and their project team members are eligible to use the allocations awarded by the Merit Allocation Committee. Resources are also available to industrial users for technology diffusion activities; if interested contact APAC directly. How and When to Apply Forms for applications to the Merit Allocation Scheme or for Start-Up Grants can be found at http://nf.apac.edu.au/accounts/. Applicants should read the policies and guidelines for the Merit Allocation Scheme. Advice on completing the forms may be obtained from the National Facility. National Facility staff are available to discuss the suitability of the facilities and their environment to the proposed project, or advise if other available facilities might be more appropriate. Proposals should be made to the Merit Allocation Scheme at the bi-annual call but in special circumstances may be made at any time.
